Artist Statement

I make small and medium-sized abstract monotypes on Japanese and watercolour papers by hand, without a press. I mix printing and collaging techniques, working slowly in layers to build textures, transparencies, and colour. I pursue both thoughtful composition and spontaneous mark-making. When finished, it reveals little of its making — teasing curiosity about how it came to be. I choose to work by hand. In a world that has spent decades dismissing manual skill as inferior, this is deliberate. My hands carry knowledge: technique, judgment, the decision-making in each layer. I want to be part of a lineage of printmakers and craft practitioners who believe in the dignity and intelligence of handwork.
